With a bit of imagination you could recreate that class in your very own home. Now we need to look at what is the best spin bike for the home, for your budget.

We will be looking at all the features you can find amongst the different price ranges and types available. This way you can be better informed as to what is best suited for your needs and budget.

What to look for when buying a spin bike

There are many factors you need to take into account when deciding which is the best spin bike for home use. It is not just down to the price, or how it looks.

To get the best value for money we have a list of things you should take into consideration;

Flywheel

The flywheel is the weighted wheel, usually a solid metal disc, and tends to be at the front of the bike. It connects to the pedals by a chain or belt drive.

The flywheel provides the resistance while you pedal, which you can adjust with a control near the frame or handlebars.

A heavier flywheel can give you a harder workout.

Weight Limit

Better quality spin bikes will have a higher weight capacity.

They will usually be better made, using higher quality materials. A decent spin bike will support a weight of around 120kg or more. This is obviously an important factor.

Seat & Handlebars

This is often overlooked as a decided factor, but it can be crucial. As people are of different heights, the spin bike should be height adjustable in the seat and handlebars to accommodate.

Dimensions

Of course, deciding which spin bike to buy can be affected by the amount of space you have. Think about the desired location – conservatory, spare room, gym…

You will need space to comfortably use the bike, and leave it in situ if you will be, or if you will storing it in a cupboard somewhere. There are also folding spin bikes available.

Screen

You are more likely to find at least a basic LCD screen on your bike. They do vary in functionality so decide if you want a screen that displays speed, time, distance, heart rate to name a few.

Some also have preprogrammed workouts and timers for better variety.

Price

As with everything, the more expensive it is the better quality it is likely to be, with more features. But it can vary even within a limited price range.

It is important to look at what is available, what you might want from it, and what you can afford.

We will look at the best spin bikes in various price ranges to make sure every budget is catered for.

Warranty

Do not forget to look at what warranty the spin bike comes with. You can expect at least one year, some have two years, and there may be the option to increase this for a fee.

Should the unlikely happen, the company can come out and repair your bike at home, or take it away for repair with the option to have a replacement one in the meantime.

What’s the difference between Spinning Bikes and Indoor Exercise Bikes?

There is not a huge difference between the two – they are both stationary cycles that are used indoors. Spin bikes often have more adjustments to the pedals, handlebars and seat. Spin bike also allow you to vary the resistance as you cycle.

Both offer the same fitness benefits;

Benefits of Spin Bikes

  • Spin bikes offer a great cardiovascular workout, either in an organised class or at home, which, with regular use will help increase your lung capacity, endurance and stamina.
  • Exercising on spin bikes target your core muscles, as well as calves, thighs, glutes and arms. Increased resistance will give you a more intense core workout.
  • Without a doubt, a spin bike workout will burn a lot of calories – as much as 600 calories in a 45 minute session. There aren’t many exercises that will offer that calorie burn.
  • It is also considered to be a low impact exercise, resulting in lower pressure on the joints – significantly lower than compared to rowing machines or treadmills.

Last thoughts…

An indoor spin bike is a great option for the home gym. They offer a high intensity, full body workout, whilst being low impact, meaning if you can only afford one cardio machine it will give you one of the best workouts for your money.

Hopefully we have given you a good overview of what you can buy in your price range and what to look out for, whether you are a beginner or seasoned spinner.
