Smartwatches and fitness trackers are getting more and more intelligent – they can count your steps, track your heart rate and work out how many calories you burn during an exercise.
But what smartwatch or fitness tracker should you buy?
There are many options available and at a range of prices. Some things you will want to consider are:

Best Overall Fitness Tracker
The best fitness tracker smartwatch overall is the Fitbit Versa 2. It features good pulse tracking, Amazon Alexa built-in and a great accompanying app for your smartphone.
It does not have GPS but you can use the one on your phone.

The best fitness tracker smartwatch for running is the Garmin Forerunner 245 Music. It has the latest technology in heart rate sensor, has built-in storage for your essential running tracks and supports Garmin Coach – a feature that helps you train for various running distances. Its battery can last up to 7 days!
Best Fitness Tracker For Swimming
The best fitness tracker smartwatch for swimming is the Apple Watch Series 5. Yes, you do need to have an iPhone to use an Apple watch, but assuming you do it is a great smartwatch for swimming, and other fitness tracking for that matter.
There are two main types: GPS and GPS with Cellular – the latter meaning you can use it for your activity without the need to have your phone with you for making and receiving calls, but you do not need the cellular model to track your exercise without your phone. You can just pair and sync your activity data once you are back with your iPhone.
Each of those types comes in two size options: 40mm and 44mm screen, the choice is personal preference. But if you have owned an earlier model you will generally know which size to go for.
Due to the high price, I wouldn’t recommend buying it purely for swimming, but it has so many other features that it would be money well spent if you are in the market for a smartwatch/fitness tracker anyway. One disappointing factor is the battery life, at 18 hours it is undoubtedly the lowest of all the smartwatches we’ve reviewed, but if you don’t mind sticking it on charge in the evening or overnight it is not a major issue.

If you own an Android smartphone, the best fitness tracker smartwatch for you is the Fitbit Charge 3. A great looking smartwatch, with a battery that will last you most of the week. It features some great apps, is swim-proof (water-resistant to 50m), has a 24/7 heart rate monitor and also tracks your sleep patterns automatically.
Best Budget Fitness Tracker
If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on a watch, but still want some great fitness and tracking features, the best fitness tracker smartwatch – budget is the Fitbit Inspire HR.
